This book “Helpline in Biochemistry—Questions and Answers”, gives an account of the commonly asked short notes and other questions from the students of MBBS, BDS, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Nursing and others who study Biochemistry with its clinical relevance. Contents of the book, covering most of the aspects of biochemistry have been divided into 21 chapters. These include topics on cellular organelles and biological membranes; enzymes; biological oxidation; chemistry, digestion, absorption and metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and amino acids; chemistry and metabolism of nucleic acids including molecular biology; vitamins, minerals and general nutrition; metabolism of water and electrolytes; acid base balance, hormones; immunology; carcinogenesis and metabolism of xenobiotics; organ function tests and few more topics. About the Author Dr Harbans Lal is working as Senior Professor of Biochemistry at Pt. B.D. Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak (Haryana). He has 34 years experience of teaching biochemistry to medical, dental and pharmacy students. Besides supervising research of PhD and MD students, he has written five textbooks and several review articles. He has also published 125 research papers in various journals of national and international repute. Dr Harbans Lal has also been visiting Professor in the Department of Biosciences at M.D. University, Rohtak, visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology, Louisiana State University Medical Centre, New Orleans, USA. He is also a recipient of several awards, viz. Fellowship Award of World Health Organization; Young Scientists’ Award of Nutrition Society of India; Doctorate-cum-Hon Fellowship of the International Academy of Ophthalmology, Belgium; Fellowship of the Association of Clinical Biochemistry of India; Seth G.S. Medical College and KEM Hospital Oration award of ACBI; and certificate of appreciation for excellence in teaching awarded by the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Rohtak.
