About the Author KE Elizabeth is a well-known clinician, academician and researcher in the field of Pediatrics and Nutrition. She has a brilliant academic career graduating from Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram and ranked first in her batch in the University of Kerala with gold medals in Medicine and Community Medicine. Subsequently, she took DCH and MD and PhD (Nutrition and Child Development) from the same University and was awarded Fellowship of IAP (FIAP) in 2004. She is currently Professor and Consultant in Nutrition and Genetics in the Department of Paediatrics, SAT Hospital, Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram, Academic Counselor for the PGDMCH course of the Indira Gandhi National Open University and a PhD Research guide and examiner. She had special training in 'Endocrinological Techniques and Applications' from National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad, PALS, NALS, Neuro-Developmental follow-up of High Risk Babies, WHO sponsored 'Community Based Rehabilitation' (CBR) and genetics from Leeds Teaching Hospital and St. James, University, UK. She has over 100 national and international publications including textbooks like Nutrition and Child Development, Fundamentals of Paediatrics, Management of Fever and IMNCI and Pediknots—Pediatric Case Studies. She is reviewer of several journals and member of the International Advisory Board of Journal of Tropical Pediatrics, Oxford, London. She has won several national and international honors and awards—Dr CO Karunakaran award twice and Indian Academy of Pediatrics award thrice for the best research papers, Nana Miniscreen award for the best TV Programme for Women and Children, Dr TN Krishnan award and Nutrition Society of India, Senior Award in Community Nutrition for Community Work and International Ambulatory Pediatric Research Award, Virginia, for innovations in comprehensive rehabilitation of malnourished children. She is the life member of various professional and social organisations and joint secretary and editor of Trivandrum Medical College Alumni Association and member of the Bio Safety and Ethics Committee of the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, Trivandrum.
