Clinical Approach to Pigmentary Disorders

The first point of contact for most skin disorders is usually general practitioners. The initial therapy that is administered is often the deciding factor in the ultimate results of patients. Thus this text is primarily targeted at general practitioners. The arrangement of the text is thus directed in a regional manner. Some disorders are given in the table of contents but not discussed in the text as they are uncommonly seen. We have covered the pigmented disorders in this book. The primary stimulus for this topic was Mr. Swapnil Shah who felt that this topic is need of the hour. We have divided the text into the two main disorders hyper and hypopigmentation. The appendix provides a focus on the classification and use of corticosteroids as this is often commonly mis-used in dermatology. Important topics are buffeted by simple snapshot tables and relevant photographs to make the text easy to understand. Apart from the team of authors at Delhi, a special thanks to Dr. Imran Majid and Dr Arijit Coondoo who worked on an extremely tight schedule to cover two important topics, melasma and rationale use of steroids. A special thanks to Mr. Vij and his team for finishing the task on time. We hope that the relevant audience is benefitted by the text and its targeted intention. At the end I may point out that in case of a doubt it’s better to refer. There is no disgrace in accepting that something is/are beyond us, there is more disgrace in mismanaging and in these times facing medicolegal hassles!
