Comprehensive Review of TUBERCULOSIS India alone accounts for 20% of the global incidence of tuberculosis with approximately 1.8 million new cases developing every year, out of which 0.8 million are sputum positive. Control of tuberculosis requires preventing new infections and thereby development of fresh cases along with successful treatment of prevalent cases. Effective treatment of tuberculosis cases also reduces the mortality. Achieving targets of case detection and success rates under Revised National TB Control Programme is expected to reduce the incidence by preventing fresh infections.
